Went to New Orleans over the break and was able to talk to a couple of local artists that said the city inspired their current style.
Most notable of them were Georges Cabot and Todd Lyons. They both use conceptually abstract techniques to depict what they see with Cabot specifically playing with palette knives and bright colors and Lyons using a more drippy watercolor effect and dreamy colors.
I thought both artists did an incredible job of capturing the spirit and overall culture of New Orleans—I was able to talk to them and learn how they’ve struck a balance with their style and general composition and “rules”. Interesting to see their thought process and their iterations/”studies” before coming up with their final.
